Coach:
As
of April 26th, we have fewer people interested in
umpping this year even though the pay rate is pretty darn
good for the time involved.
If you know of anyone interested in umpping, then
please pass their name onto Frank McGivern.
Frank
McGivern is our home game umpire scheduler again this
year. HE HAS A NEW WORK NUMBER! His contact information
is (W) 651.739.5349;
(cell) 612-518-9633; (H) 651.699.9346; fmcgivern@netzero.com.
He has the same link to the field schedule that Peter
S. sends out so he knows about all scheduled games. I
believe that he prefers phone contact, but e-mail works for
him as long as it isn't last minute.
If
a scheduled home game is cancelled or rescheduled,
etc., Frank must be notified ASAP in order to give him time
to notify the scheduled umpire. As I recall, last
year Frank wanted to be notified no later than 4 PM on
a game day in order to give him time to notify
affected umpires. Obviously, Frank would
like to be notified far sooner if possible.
An
umpire that shows up at the site of a cancelled game due to
lack of notice or late notice will get partial if not total
payment.
For
all cancellations, a team representative should contact Frank
directly with the cancellation notice. In addition,
the team rep should notify Peter S (our field scheduler) so
that the game-day field prep charge can be eliminated.
In
the event that an umpire does not show up, then notify Frank
so that he can work the problem and hopefully avoid a future
no-show.
Process
can be fine-tuned in future if needed as situations warrant.
Most of our local umpires are in the learning stage. They will make
mistakes (just like all of us do). Please be
professional and get over it. Tell any criticizing vocal
parent that an opportunity exists for them to umpire
every one of your team's home games for the rest of the
season.
